For the long time patrons, good for you, but I wouldn’t recommend this place to others except maybe for the eat all you can eat crab legs (if they still have that). I wouldn’t say the food is bland but you can count the number of ingredients after 2 bites (for those of us who can cook), in other words the food is not very memorable. In other words, the food here is far from gourmet but charges gourmet prices as a diner. If you like simple preparations and presentation without too much seasoning and just plain seafood taste, this is for you. The seafood is definitely fresh, no doubt about it. It depends how you like your seafood and what you think is the right price. After we tried some the core dishes we realized that all of the reviews are true, good and bad. We live downtown so there are plenty of gourmet seafood and chops around us, this place is a bit out of our way but since they charge downtown prices and have all of the positive reviews, it is worth a try. We have read mixed reviews of this place and decided to give it a try. Thank you to chef BK and the entire team for providing us with an amazing experience. Even if you don’t enjoy Japanese cuisine, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how much of a difference quality ingredients make. If you enjoy Japanese cuisine this is a MUST experience. Taking everything into account, I can’t think of any rating to give to MAKO besides 5/5. I didn’t expect more, I wouldn’t want it to be any less. At the end of the course, all I could feel was complete. The freshness of the nigiri and the sashimi was out of this world. The burnt scallion ponzu is perhaps the best thing I have ever tasted(my mouth is watering the next day thinking about it). The platings were beautiful and the flavors were unexplainable. From beginning to end the orchestration from the chefs, to the servers, to the tables was perfect. MAKO was everything I imagined and more, surpassing my expectations and leaving my self and my date in awe the entire time. I’m happy to say I’ve never been more wrong in my life. I had been extremely excited since making the reservation and was getting nervous that my excitement could possibly be setting the bar too high for what was to come.
